How rent reporting can affect your credit
Rent reporting services can add your eligible on-time rent payments to your credit report as a positive tradeline. Over time, consistent on-time rent history may support a stronger credit profile.
How it works
A rent-reporting service verifies your rent payments, then reports that activity to one or more credit bureaus. Depending on the service, this may appear as an open tradeline or as a rental account.
Bureau coverage varies
Not every service reports to all three major bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion). Some report to only one or two. Bureau coverage matters because a tradeline only helps where it is actually reported.
Past rental history
Some services can report up to a limited amount of past rent history, while others only report ongoing monthly payments. The amount of history that can be added, and whether there is an additional fee, varies by provider.
Important note
Rent reporting is not guaranteed to increase any credit score, and results depend on your full credit profile and the scoring model used.
